Walt Disney World Resort has issued a park-wide apology to guests after abruptly closing the Haunted Mansion attraction at Magic Kingdom Park on May 2. The Liberty Square ride, which is currently undergoing an extensive exterior refurbishment, has yet to reopen.Haunted Mansion RefurbishmentIn January 2026, Walt Disney World Resort began a quiet refurbishment of the exterior of the Haunted Mansion attraction. At first, it appeared that Disney may have just been extending the building facade to match the extension of Frontierland for the new Piston Peak National Park area, inspired by Cars (2006).Credit: Rick, Inside the MagicIn February, though, a photo-realistic wrap surrounded the entire Haunted Mansion facade. Scaffolding now surrounds much of the building, including the conservatory, the weather vane, the towers, and some backstage areas.
