The price of gas is on the rise and it doesn’t look like it’s going to come back down any time soon. With people across the world struggling to fill up their cars due to the oil shortage things are becoming dire. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t still good people, like Monty Van Der Berg, who are willing to give aid when they can. Van Der Berg, 34, who lives in Perth, Australia, offered to fill up the tanks of a handful of drivers as a random act of kindness intended to help individuals and families that may be struggling in his community. According to 7 News Australia the man had been topping up his own tank at a local BP petrol station at 10:30 PM on Monday when he saw that the person before him had only topped up their gas by $7, which equated to a few liters. When another car pulled up to the pump next to him Monty Van Der Berg saw his chance to act, “I thought here’s my chance. I told her to fill up all the way.” When he went to the kiosk he told another woman that he’d cover her fuel as well. Shortly afterwards another man entered and Van Der Berg paid for his fuel too. Monty Van Der Berg’s kind gesture gets an emotional response The man’s act of compassion brought about a tearful response from the people he helped. One woman, who identified herself as the crying lady online wrote, “I had just finished a heavy shift and have been working lots of double shifts in both my jobs. I was exhausted.” She went on to add, “I was just overwhelmed by the gesture.” before stating that she hopes her message gets back to Van Der Berg, “I couldn’t be more thankful.” Van Der Berg reportedly told the woman that it was “no big deal.” Rachel Greville, another one of the lucky few to be present at the gas station during Van Der Berg’s charitable moment explained that she had only intended to fill up by $20, and was “gobsmacked” when the man told her to fill up her tank as he would pay for it. She is currently working three jobs, but the full tank would get her to work for a whole week. While Monty Van Der Berg’s actions certainly show that there are still kind people out there, the problems many average people are facing won’t go away anytime soon. While the efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing anything that could go wrong likely will with Donald Trump as president, so prices could remain high for quite some time.
