Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of Electoral CommissionUganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday announced January 15, 2026 as the polling date for the 2026 presidential and parliamentary elections.Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of Electoral Commission, made the remarks while addressing the press at EC offices in Industrial Area ahead of Parliamentary nominations scheduled for October 22nd -23rd 2025.Byabakama said Directly Elected Members of Parliament and District Woman Representatives will be nominated on the said days at the offices of District/City Returning Officers.On the other hand, nomination of candidates for election of Member of Parliament representing the Special Interest Groups (Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and Youths) shall take place on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd October 2025, at the Electoral Commission Headquarters, located at Plot 1-3/5 Seventh Street, Industrial Area, Kampala, and shall begin at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm on each of the appointed dates.The EC cautioned the nominated candidates against embarking on campaigns immediately, noting that Parliamentary campaigns will officially kick off on 10th November 2025.It should be noted that the Presidential campaigns kicked off on 29th September 2025, with candidates traversing various districts simultaneously.Byabakama said Local Government, Presidential and Parliamentary Campaigns will end on 13th January 2026 ahead of polling day scheduled for January 15, 2026.A total of 8 presidential candidates including incumbent President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) were nominated to contest in the 2021 general election.The other seven include Robert Kyagulanyi of National Unity Platform (NUP), Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Nathan Nandala Mafabi of Forum for Democratic Change, Robert Kasibante of Peasant Party, Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man’s Party, Frank Kabinga Bulira of Revolutionary People’s Party and Joseph Mabirizi of Conservative Party.The EC boss commended the presidential candidates for abiding by the law, noting that the campaigns have generally been peaceful.He urged Parliamentary candidates to emulate the same. The post Electoral Commission Announces Polling Date For 2026 Presidential, Parliamentary Elections appeared first on Business Focus.
