Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P. K. Sekarbabu recently launched a scheme to utilise excess cotton dhotis and saris in large temples by distributing them to one-time puja temples and village temples.Speaking at an event at Thiruveleeswarar in Padi, he said the garments given by devotees to deities at large temples were numerous, and temples were finding it difficult to store them. The same vasthrams could be used by smaller temples for deities.In the Chennai circle, 119 small temples were given vasthrams for use for their idols, said a press release.Published - October 22, 2025 03:51 pm IST
