Liverpool left-back in “really difficult moment” as injury flares up after surgery

Liverpool left-back Owen Beck is enduring a “frustrating time” due to complications resulting from hamstring surgery last season.Beck has played three times for Liverpool’s first team and was enjoying a successful period on loan at Blackburn last season until hamstring problems struck.Having missed the end of last season to undergo surgery, he is suffering complications and has yet to play for new loan club Derby.Manager John Eustace told media including the Derby Telegraph: “He had a big surgery last season.“There’s a lot of scar tissue that’s been built up in that area and when he came back, that bit of scar tissue just caused a reaction.“He’s come back again and from rescanning it, there’s still a tiny little bit of scar tissue left in there, which is just holding him back a little bit.“But we’re on top of that and I’m sure he’ll be back in with the group in the next week or so.”The 23-year-old left-back, nephew of Ian Rush, has impressed over the last two years and has even been called up to the Wales senior squad. However, he is yet to make an appearance in the Welsh first team and will likely now find himself out of favour due to a lack of game time.“It’s a really difficult moment for Owen,” Derby coach Eustace continued. “He’s not back with the group as such, and it’s been a really frustrating time for him and for us.“But we’ve got to get him in the right mindset and in the right state of fitness before he can actually come in and train every day and be part of the group.“He’s doing well and he’s heading in the right direction. It’s a bit slower than what we wanted, but when he’s back, I know we’ve got a great player to help join the squad. That’s key.”While the chances of Beck now making it at Liverpool are relatively slim, he shouldn’t be dismissed completely if he can recover from his injury issues. The youngster signed a new long-term contract before departing on loan in the summer, amid reported interest from other Premier League clubs. It is a big if, but if Beck can get back on track, Liverpool could do a lot worse than look at him as an option should Milos Kerkez‘s shaky start continue into the future.
