Britain announces it has dispatched 200 soldiers to Israel to help monitor and enforce the Gaza peace plan.By World Israel News StaffBritain has dispatched soldiers to Israel to bolster the American-brokered peace plan, London announced on Monday night.Speaking with business leaders, UK defense chief John Healey said that Britain had agreed to plan an “anchor role” in the US-led Gaza peace deal and ceasefire. To that end, Healey announced, Britain has dispatched 200 soldiers to Israel, where he said they would monitor adherence to the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and support the American mission to enforce the peace plan. The United States this week unveiled a new command center outside of Kiryat Gat in southern Israel, used to coordinate incoming aid to the Gaza Strip and monitor the implementation of the peace deal.Healey said the US had requested Britain’s participation in the ceasefire enforcement mission, adding that the UK deployment to Israel is being led by a two-star officer, equivalent to a Major General in the US Army.“We can contribute to monitoring the ceasefire, but that’s likely to be led by others,” Healey said. “We will play our part.”“We’ve also, in response to the American request, we put a first-rate, two-star officer into the civilian and military command as a deputy commander. So, Britain will play an anchor role.”The British soldiers deployed to Israel include planning officers, advisors, and other specialists. The force will not be sent into the Gaza Strip, according to a report by The Times, and will not serve in any combat roles in the region.A Defence Ministry spokesperson cited by The Guardian said that the UK officers would be embedded within the US mission, providing planning support for the Gaza Strip.“A small number of UK planning officers have embedded in the US-led CMCC, civil military coordination centre, including a two-star deputy commander to ensure that the UK remains integrated into the US-led planning efforts for Gaza post-conflict stability.”“The UK continues to work with international partners to support the Gaza ceasefire to see where the UK can best contribute to the peace process.”The post UK deploys troops to Israel as part of Gaza peace plan appeared first on World Israel News.
