(File Photo)A 37-year-old man was killed and four others, including a woman, suffered severe injuries after a speeding vehicle rammed into a BEST bus while they were waiting at a bus stop in Mumbai’s Dadar late Sunday.According to the preliminary investigation, the Tempo Traveller was heading towards Shivaji Park when its driver lost control and hit the front side of a BEST bus, causing it to veer to the left and collide with those at the Dadar Plaza Bus Stop.“The police have nabbed the Tempo driver from the accident spot. Initially, it seems that it was his mistake,” Vilas Datir, Senior Inspector, Shivaji Park Police Station, said.A police team on patrol duty reached the spot, and rushed the injured to Sion Hospital with the help of the bus conductor. Shahabuddin Shaikh, who suffered severe injuries in his head and other parts of his body, was declared dead during treatment, said an officer of the Shivaji Park Police Station. The four others who sustained injuries are stable, the officer added.Rahul Ashok Padale, 30, Rohit Ashok Padale, 33, Akshay Ashok Padale, 25, and Vidya Rahul Mote, 28, have been injured. All of them are residents of the Wadala area who were waiting at the bus stop to nab the bus.According to the police, the accident occurred at around 11.30 pm Sunday when the bus on Route Number 169 was heading to Pratiksha Nagar Depot from Worli Bus Depot. As the bus approached the Plaza Bus Stop, the speeding Tempo Traveller dashed into the bus on the front side.The bus turned to the left due to the impact and hit the people standing at the Plaza bus stop. The front windshield glass of the bus was broken, and one of its tyres burst. The Tempo Traveller also rammed into a taxi and a tourist car, which were ahead of the BEST bus. Both cars were damaged.Story continues below this adThe police said the BEST bus was taken to the Wadala Depot for an RTO test, and the Tempo Traveller was seized.
