‘Who needs enemies with friends like these?’: Young boy abandoned by friends who think he’s faking his seizure

Wait 5 sec.

Seizures are no joke which is why it’s important to be aware of the medical condition and what to do in such a situation, especially if someone in your life suffers from them. For one unlucky boy, his friends weren’t clued up on the condition which resulted in them abandoning him after assuming he was faking it. The moment was recorded by a woman on TikTok who just so happened to be passing by. Jodie was walking with her four-year-old daughter when she spotted the young lad lying on the sidewalk. Unsure of what to do she voices her concerns out loud. She explains that the boy’s friends were across the street but that they had told her to ignore him as he was apparently faking it. Luckily for the boy Jodie didn’t listen to the friends and decided to cautiously approach the unconscious boy. Upon getting closer it quickly became apparent that this was real. His phone was in his hand and 999 (The U.K. number for the emergency services) had been dialled but the boy had evidently been unable to speak to the person on the other end. Would someone who was faking it have called the emergency services? @jodiecarnall I’m still in shock from this. Please don’t walk away from your friends if they are having a seizure! Whether you think it is ‘fake’ or not – call an ambulance to be SAFE! #seizureawareness #seizure #firstaid #helpothers #epilepsy ♬ original sound – Jodie Carnall Thankfully Jodie was able to speak with the operator who had stayed on the line. Seizures can be life-threatening In the comments some claimed that the boy had passed away but Jodie confirmed that he was alive and well (no thanks to his friends). It truly was incredibly lucky that she was passing at that exact time or else who knows what could have become of the young man. In another video Jodie followed up with a post from the boys mother, confirming that he had been diagnosed with Mesial Temporal Lobe Sclerosis, (scarring on the brain) and had suffered nine seizures in the space of ten minutes. He could have died had Jodie not been there. Sadly, many don’t understand how dangerous a seizure can be. The boy could have seriously been harmed from the fall and the convulsions alone. According to epilepsy.com, problems including “broken bones, concussions, head injury,” and more can result from a seizure. However, it can also be life-threatening in certain situations. According to the mother, the friends had been incorrectly told that he faked his seizures. However, viewers on TikTok were still disgusted by their response. “With friends like that who needs enemies?” Wrote one person, another added, “Absolutely diabolical of his ‘friends’ thank god you came along.” Others suggested that the friends educate themselves on the reality surrounding seizures. According to the NHS, if someone you know has a seizure the first step is to stay calm. Only move them if they’re in a dangerous spot i.e. a road. Cushion their head, loosen tight clothing, turn them on their side after the convulsions have subsided, stay with them and take note of when the seizure starts and ends.
