Deputy Commissioner of Mandya Kumar expressed serious concern over the district’s poor performance in the SSLC examination this year, where 2,864 students failed in the exam despite it being conducted in three phases.Speaking at a review meeting on school performance and analysis of SSLC results, Dr. Kumar said Mandya has 472 high schools, including 251 government, 92 aided, and 132 unaided institutions. While the State’s overall SSLC pass percentage stood at 66.14, Mandya fared slightly better at 69.26%.Nevertheless, the district’s performance was considered disappointing, prompting the Deputy Commissioner to call for introspection among teachers.Among the taluks, K.R. Pet ranked eighth in terms of performance, with 984 students failing in the exam.Dr. Kumar urged teachers to examine the reasons behind such failures and to work toward improving students’ academic future.Expressing concern over 3,187 students failing in Kannada, he noted that aided schools underperformed compared to government institutions and directed officials to keep a close watch on them. He also warned that action would be taken against the aided school managements that consistently show poor results.The Deputy Commissioner instructed that headmasters recording below 40% results over the past two years be called for a special meeting, adding that notices have already been issued to such institutions. He informed that two schools recorded a zero pass percentage, which he described as a sign of lack of motivation among some teachers.“Headmasters should take personal interest and accountability in improving their school’s performance,” he said.Dr. Kumar urged schools to work with renewed commitment so that Mandya district could rank among the top five districts in next year’s SSLC results.Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K.R. Nandini said teachers are well aware of methods to improve results and advised schools with less than 40 pass percentage to prepare a comprehensive action plan.
