FORMER Espanyol president Joan Collet was caught in the middle of a brawl with supporters after the club’s 2-1 defeat at home to Real Betis on Sunday. It says the row started after “provocative” behaviour from the travelling Betis fans.Ex-Espanyol chief Collet was present in the area and got involved in the scrap, with a clip of the incident circulating on social media. The video shows one fan burst through a door and try to shove another man. Another supporter then grabs him and pushes him to the ground.He then gets to his feet and tries to make his way towards the group of men again, before being pushed back. The report from Mundo Deportivo says Collet was “trying to calm things down”, but “ended up getting hurt”. Collet declined to comment when approached by the Spanish site, it goes on to say. He was in charge of the club between 2012 and 2016, with ex-Tottenham and Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino leaving during his first month in the role.There was further controversy during the game on Sunday as Real Betis goalkeeper Pau Lopez was accused of making an offensive gesture towards the home fans after saving Puado’s penalty.Lopez – formerly of Tottenham – started his career with Espanyol and appeared to react after being heckled by the home fans during the game.The emotionally-charged game saw a lengthy VAR review in the final stages before Puado’s penalty was awarded.But Lopez came to the rescue to frustrate his former side and leave them in ninth place.Betis, meanwhile, climbed to fourth in the table ahead of rivals Atletico Madrid.
