Not even sideline reporters are safe from the wrath of the intensity of a college football game. ESPN reporter Holly Rowe would know. ESPN CFB sideline reporter Holly Rowe was wiped out by Miami defenders as they pushed a Seminoles RB out of boundsX/ @JoeCJr29In a blockbuster ACC college football matchup between the No. 3 Miami Hurricanes and the No. 18 Florida State Seminoles, in which Miami came out on top with a 28-22 victory, Rowe was cleaned out at the knees, and left feet up in the air. This came after an onslaught of Hurricanes defenders came towards her as they drove Seminoles running back Ousmane Kromah backwards and out of bounds in the third quarter. Despite this, the veteran broadcaster popped right back up after her legs swung high into the air, still holding onto her microphone, and jumped right back into the action. The commentary team made up of Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit immediately noticed their colleague go down, and had to ensure she was okay.“Holly went down! Holly, you alright, girl?” Herbstreit asked.“I have an injury update on myself. I’m good,” Rowe replied, before proceeding to go into full sideline reporter mode to discuss and break down the Miami defense on that play. “I was waiting for you guys to toss it, my backpedal was off,” she added. Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver and Canes alumnus Michael Irvin, who played at Miami between 1984-1987, was also floored in the collision, and Fowler was quick to point out that he did not step in front to protect Rowe.“Michael Irvin did not stand in front of you to protect you,” Fowler said. “I’m gonna get on it right now,” she replied. “Hey! [to Irvin] You’re supposed to protect me out here.“Next time, I’ll protect you if you’re not gonna protect me,” she said as they embraced each other laughing and Irvin apologized.“Michael was not chivalrous there,” Fowler added. As a true professional, Rowe went down still with her microphone in handX/ @JoeCJr29Rowe and Irvin joked about the NFL HOF receiver not protecting her as the players came their wayX/ @JoeCJr29Rowe has been manning the sidelines for the last three decades having begun her broadcasting career in the mid-1990s before serving in a full-time role with ESPN since 1998. Since then, she has worked as the lead sideline reporter for ESPN’s coverage of Saturday-night college football, and has also covered the WNBA and the NBA. Rowe also made history in October 2021 when she became the Utah Jazz‘s first female color commentator, making her debut in their game against the Sacramento Kings. Irvin, on the other hand, was a superstar in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys after being selected out of Miami with the 11th overall pick in the 1988 draft. He was one year removed from winning a National Championship with the Canes in 1987.Irvin finished his 12-year career as a three-time Super Bowl champion, a five-time Pro Bowler, and was named as part of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team, before being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.Miami are the team to beat in the ACCWhilst the final scoreline between Miami and FSU was close, it was not exactly reticent of how the game transpired early on, as the Hurricanes led 14-3 at the half. Irvin was seen in full support of his alma mater Miami as they defeated FSU 27-22GettyCarson Beck threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns in Miami’s 28-22 victory over FSU on the roadGettyThis lead was quickly stretched out to 28-3 entering the fourth quarter after quarterback Carson Beck, who transferred to Miami in January after two years as the starter for the Georgia Bulldogs, found Malachi Toney open in the center of the field on a fourth down. The Freshman wide receiver then burst down the field and into the endzone for a 40-yard touchdown, as Beck – who was previously in a high-profile relationship with former Canes basketball star-turned-social media influencer Hanna Cavinder – completed 20-of-27 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns. However, Miami’s defense allowed 19 unanswered points in the fourth quarter as Seminoles quarterback Thomas Castellanos tried to rally his team back. But ultimately, it was FSU’s three turnovers proved costly, and the Canes were able to come away from the Doak S. Campbell Stadium undefeated, with a 5-0 record on the 2025 season. At this stage of the season – albeit still very early on – Miami look to be the team to beat in the ACC, with Beck touted as the current Heisman frontrunner after having taken over from No. 1 NFL Draft pick Cam Ward under center for the Canes.Stay up to date with the latest from college football across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the offseason news, interviews and more.
