She allegedly passed on information about the doctor’s cash and jewellery to a group who plotted the robbery and murder, said officers.Several accused, including Basanti, were soon caught. But two key conspirators, Bhim Bahadur Jora and his wife Varsha, vanished.For nearly a year later, there was no trace of them until an unexpected lead came — not from Delhi, but from Gurgaon.Last Thursday, Gurgaon Police arrested a 30-year-old domestic help, Yuvraj Thapa, for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash from the home of a BJP leader, Mamta Bharadwaj, in Sector 39.The theft had occurred at their Orchid Villa home in broad daylight, at 8 am, when the couple had stepped out for a morning walk. Acting on a tip off, the police nabbed Thapa at Delhi’s Anand Vihar Railway Station.During questioning, police said Thapa, from Budiganga in Bajura district of Nepal, spilled more than just details of the theft. He revealed that he was not working alone — he was following orders from Jora, the same man wanted for the Delhi doctor’s murder.Story continues below this adAccording to police, Jora was also present at the Gurgaon crime scene.The Delhi Police have now intensified their search for Jora and his wife. After the doctor’s murder, they had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 each for information leading to their arrest.“Following the revelations made by the accused in the Gurgaon BJP leader’s house theft case, efforts to trace Jora and his wife have been intensified,” a senior police officer said.Investigators believe Jora and Varsha are part of a larger gang that specialises in planting members as domestic workers. They infiltrate homes, conduct a recce, and strike when the timing is right — robbing and vanishing before suspicion can fall on them.Story continues below this adAccording to the Delhi Police, a total of eight individuals, including Basanti, were involved in the doctor’s murder.Last November, the Delhi Police Crime Branch had arrested one of the alleged masterminds, Vishnu Swaroop Shahi, from the Indo-Nepal border.
