His XL Bully was said to have injured Luke Rehbin while out of control near his home. A second charge alleges the Algeria wide-man was also the owner of an American bulldog which went for Mr Rehbin. During his playing career in London Benrahma was regularly seen out and posing for snaps with his two dogs, named Ghost and Cali. He had been due to enter pleas at Willesden magistrates’ court on Thursday but did not attend because he was in Saudi Arabia. His solicitors sent a letter indicating he would deny both charges but said the millionaire star was hoping “to keep costs to an absolute minimum”, the court heard. Adrian England, defending, said: “I want an application to request an adjournment. “I know nothing about the basics except for the absolute basics.“I don’t know precisely what he has been charged for.“I need to take instructions from his solicitor in Monaco to contact him and speak to him to receive proper instructions.” Magistrate Roger King said he was content for the case to stay in the magistrates’ court rather than be committed to crown court. Benrahma will appear in court either in person or via video link later this month. Anyone allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control can be hit with an unlimited fine, a prison sentence, be banned from owning or looking after a dog, or have their animal euthanised. Benrahma began his professional career with Ligue 1 team Nice before moving to Brentford in 2018 where he scored 27 goals in 83 appearances. In 2020 Benrahma moved to West Ham on a season-long loan before becoming the East London side’s third most expensive player in January 2021 in a £30million deal. He scored 24 goals in 155 games for the Hammers. In June last year Lyon signed him for £12million on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell. In January, Benrahma joined the then second-tier Saudi First Division side Neom SC on loan until the end of the season. Neom signed him permanently in a £13million deal in April after they won promotion to the Saudi Pro League. He has netted four goals in 40 appearances for Algeria but also holds French citizenship as he moved to Toulouse with his family at the age of 11.
