Philadelphia Union win 2025 Supporters’ Shield

Wait 5 sec.

One year after delivering one of their worst seasons in recent time, the Philadelphia Union enjoyed their second trophy lift in club history. Bradley Carnell’s men clinched the 2025 Supporters’ Shield on Saturday after earning a 1-0 home victory over New York City FC. The result also marked Philadelphia’s 20th league win of the season, which is a new franchise-best for a single campaign. Mikael Uhre’s deflected finish was all the Union needed to seal the deal, two weeks ahead of MLS’ Decision Day. Their 33 goals conceded are the fewest allowed in MLS to date while their +24 goal difference is the second-best in the league. The Union’s 12 home wins to date in league play are tied with Charlotte FC for the most in MLS. Their eight road victories this season are already a single-season best for the team, and they still have one match left to play. Carnell, who had spent the last two seasons with St. Louis CITY SC, believed that the franchise was always expected to be in the mix in 2025 thanks to their strong foundation. “I always expect, because I have high standards, these players have high standards, this,” Carnell told Apple TV postgame from Subaru Park. “It’s a winning team, and it just needed to be rediscovered, a little bit of the foundations just needed to be filed off and polished.“But man, these guys emptied the tank,” he added. “These guys are winners, I’m so glad they won today.”THE SHIELD IS OURS #DOOP pic.twitter.com/agXd9bGQec— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) October 5, 2025The Union have been led by a dynamic attacking unit that featured Tai Baribo’s 16 league goals, Bruno Damiani’s seven goals, and Mikael Uhre’s 12 total goal contributions (six goals, six assists). Some new faces such as midfielders Jovan Lukic Danley (2,530 minutes played, third-most on roster) and Danley Jean Jacques (three goals, three assists), and forward Milan Iloski (two goals, five assists) also chipped in key performances. Veteran leaders Kai Wagner and Jakob Glesnes anchored the backline, goalkeepers Andre Blake and Andrew Rick have both split time in net, while homegrowns Nate Harriel, Quinn Sullivan, Frankie Westfield have all played key roles in the squad. It’s been a total team effort from the Union to bring home their second trophy in club history and Carnell admitted that unlike LAFC, Inter Miami, and Vancouver Whitecaps, who have star international players, the Union are fine with where they are at. “We’re not the superstars. I’m not the super coach. We don’t care, we like it this way. We fly under the radar. We make mistakes. We grow, we learn and we move on, and then we’re 66 points later,” Carnell said. The Union will finish their 2025 regular season schedule against Charlotte FC on October 18th, knowing that the MLS Cup Playoffs are right around the corner.
