We thought everything was behind us,” she said (Representative image)A 27-year-old man in Shamli district allegedly befriended his father’s killer, gained his trust for over four years before shooting him dead in cold blood, police said.The accused, Rahul alias Chhotu, a resident of Manglaura village in the Jhinjhana police station, killed 50-year-old Jaiveer who was convicted of murdering his father 15 years ago.According to the police, Jaiveer, who had killed Rahul’s father, Satyabhan, over a land dispute, served 11 years in prison before he was released.On Saturday evening, around 7 pm, Jaiveer was walking back home from his fields when Rahul stopped him near the Yamuna Dam Road and allegedly fired three rounds, one of which struck Jaiveer in the chest. Villagers heard the gunshots and rushed to the spot before taking Jaiveer to the hospital. He, however, was announced dead on arrival by doctors.Rahul fled the scene after the shooting, police said. “Rahul was looking for an opportunity to avenge his father’s murder..After Jaiveer’s release from jail, Rahul befriended him. They would often sit together, attend local events, and even help each other with work. All this while, no one in the village could tell he was still harbouring past grudge,” said Jitendra Sharma, Station House Officer, Jhinjhana. Since then, the relationship of the two families that lived 30 metres apart had become a symbol of reconciliation in the village.Rahul’s mother told the police that she had no inkling of her son’s plans. “Rahul is our only child.
