Travis Kelce has given more insight into his plans for retirement. The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end has opened up about how he will go about making his decision to retire from the NFL when the time presents itself. It may not be long before Kelce calls time on his NFL careerGettyBefore entering his 13th season in the league in 2025, speculation about his future in the NFL began to make headlines, with Kelce himself adding fuel to the fire by stating that he would see out ‘the last one [year] on the contract’ before making his final decision. Kelce, who turned 36 on Sunday, is currently playing in the final year of his two-year, $34.3 million deal that he signed in April 2024.Kelce gives new retirement hintIn a sneak preview into an extended conversation had between the Chiefs star, teammate Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid and brother Jason Kelce ahead of a Monday Night Football clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the 36-year-old was asked the question on everybody’s lips. How many more years has he got left in his locker before needing to hang up his cleats for good?“I take it day-by-day, year-by-year,” Kelce said in the clip which is a collaboration between the New Heights podcast and ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown. “I just love coming into work with these guys right here and that [Chiefs] culture has become my way of life. “The expectations every single year, year-in year-out is Super Bowl or failure, and the eye in the sky doesn’t lie, baby.“You see those first two games and we’re a few plays here and there, and a few decisions here and there away from being an undefeated football team.”Kelce chasing history before retirementAfter coming out of the blocks of the 2025 season slowly, with the Chiefs falling to both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles in their Super Bowl rematch, Kansas City picked up some form after putting together back-to-back wins against the New YorkGiants and the injury-ridden Baltimore Ravens. But Kelce’s individual performances to start the year, with the Chiefs currently sitting 2-2 on the year, have left a lot to be desired. Coming off a 2024 campaign in which he recorded a career-low 823 receiving yards from 97 receptions and three touchdowns, many had hoped that the 6-foot-5 tight end – considered one of the greatest of all time in his position – would have a spring in his step for Year 13. Reid, Kelce and Mahomes sat down for an extended conversation with Jason Kelce ahead of their MNF match-up against the JaguarsX/ @newheightshowTravis Kelce has had a HOF career, but has seen his production dwindle over the past few seasonsGettyThis comes as he committed his future to long-time partner and global music sensation Taylor Swift, with one of sports’ biggest power couples almost breaking the internet when they announced their engagement in August, with Kelce spending upwards of $500k on the engagement ring. But through the first four games of the season, Kelce has mustered just 15 receptions for 182 yards and one touchdown, still needing to more trips to the endzone before he can join an elite club of tight-ends to have recorded more than 100 career touchdowns. When his playing career is all said and done, though, Kelce has a plethora of ventures to dive right into, with the New Heights podcast booming, him having dabbled in some acting, making a cameo appearance in Happy Gilmore 2, and his beer brand ‘Garage Beer.’The possibilities are endless for the star, especially with his financial backing, with him and Swift set to share a combined net worth of an estimated $3.38 billion when they finally tie the knot. When exactly that will be remains to be seen, with the Chiefs TE remaining extremely tight-lipped on that front when quizzed by Jason.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more.
