A 24-year-old man from Sudan, who resides in Birżebbuġa, has been sentenced to two years in prison and fined €1,500 after admitting to several charges related to drug trafficking.The man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Ħamrun during police surveillance linked to suspected drug trafficking.At around 5pm, officers observed him leaving an establishment in Triq San Vinċenz, where he was subsequently placed under arrest.During a search carried out on him, police found just under €3,000 in cash.Further searches were then conducted at his residence, where officers discovered a large plastic bag containing around 80 grams of a substance suspected to be synthetic drugs, nine packets suspected to contain cannabis, and two blocks of suspected cannabis resin weighing around 83 grams.Police also found a large number of small empty plastic bags, which were allegedly ready to be used for trafficking.The man was arraigned before Magistrate Monica Vella, where he admitted to the charges and was handed a two-year prison sentence along with a €1,500 fine.In connection with the case, Magistrate Franco Agius has opened an inquiry.•
