Corning, which makes glass protection panels for Samsung and several other smartphone brands, has announced Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. The company says its new glass panel can make phones more resistant to drops, and it could be used in future high-end Galaxy phones. The announcement was made during the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 expo. Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 is Corning’s toughest Gorilla Glass panel yet, and it is designed to offer enhanced durability throughout a device’s lifetime. One of the most challenging surfaces for smartphones is concrete, and Corning says Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 has survived drops from heights greater than two meters onto surfaces that replicate concrete in its labs. The new panel is also claimed to offer substantial advantages when a device is dropped repeatedly. In Corning’s labs, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 survived at least 20 repeated drops from a height of one meter onto surfaces that replicate asphalt. The Motorola Razr Fold is the first phone to use Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, and it could appear in more phones in the future. Since Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 was used in the Galaxy S25 Edge last year, we expect select high-end Galaxy phones to use the Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 panel in the future.
