Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi inaugurated an open-air theatre at K.L. Rao Park in Chitti Nagar in Vijayawada on Tuesday, the final day in office. The term of the elected representatives of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) ended on Tuesday, and District Collector G. Lakshmisha will take charge as the Special Officer on March 18.The theatre, constructed at a cost of ₹17 lakh, will provide a pleasant environment for the public, the Mayor said during the occ. She further mentioned that the area, which was damaged due to the floods in 2024, was being redeveloped along with a walking track at an approximate cost of ₹35 lakh as part of the restoration work.Modernisation activities, such as the installation of ramps, linings, and construction of steps were also taken up on a larger scale, the Mayor said.She also said that after assuming office as the Mayor on March 18, 2021, she successfully completed her five-year term on March 17, 2026. Expressing satisfaction over the development works, Ms. Bhagyalakshmi said she felt happy to be participating in an inauguration event on the last day of her term.Published - March 17, 2026 08:28 pm IST
