normalnormalnormal In a notable example of long-term cancer management through precision oncology, doctors at Paras Health Panchkula have successfully managed a 52-year-old patient diagnosed with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC), an advanced form of kidney cancer, for nearly nine years using a series of personalized treatments including targeted therapy and immunotherapy. The patient, a father of two, was initially diagnosed with papillary renal cell carcinoma (Type II), a type of kidney cancer affecting the left kidney. Medical tests also revealed that the disease had spread to nearby lymph nodes in the abdomen, known as the para-aortic lymph nodes, indicating metastatic disease at the time of diagnosis. Doctors first performed a nephrectomy, a surgery to remove the affected kidney. After the operation, the patient was started on targeted therapy, which acts on specific cancer cells. Over time, periodic evaluations showed progression of the disease, following which doctors introduced additional lines of treatment to manage the cancer.Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, Director – Oncology, Paras Health Panchkula, said, “Cancer treatment has evolved significantly in the past decade. Precision oncology allows doctors to move beyond the traditional one-size-fits-all approach and design treatments based on the unique molecular profile of a patient’s tumour. Immunotherapy further strengthens this strategy by enabling the body’s immune system to identify and attack cancer cells. In this case of metastatic renal cell carcinoma, the patient has been under our care for nearly nine years and continues to maintain stability with a good quality of life.”Over the years, the treatment plan was modified several times based on the patient’s response and routine evaluations, including imaging tests such as PET-CT scans. After the initial targeted therapy, the patient received immunotherapy followed by a combination of targeted medicines, which helped keep the disease stable for several years. When further progression was detected, doctors introduced dual checkpoint inhibitor therapy, an advanced form of immunotherapy that helps the immune system recognise and attack cancer cells more effectively. The patient completed the prescribed treatment cycles earlier this year and is currently stable.Doctors note that the patient was managed primarily through precision treatment approaches such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy rather than conventional chemotherapy. Advances in genomic testing, targeted medicines, and immunotherapy are gradually transforming the management of cancers such as renal cell carcinoma, helping many patients live longer while maintaining a better quality of life.At Paras Health Panchkula, oncologists are increasingly adopting precision oncology strategies that combine genomic insights with advanced therapies to personalize cancer treatment.normalnormalThe post Advanced Kidney Cancer Managed for 9Yrs with Precision Oncology at Paras Health Panchkula appeared first on Chandigarh City News.
