A 73-year-old man from Sira taluk of Tumakuru district has lodged a complaint alleging that his son, who is currently lodged at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in connection with a murder case, has been making extortion calls and threatening him.According to police, the complainant, B. Rangayya, lives with his wife at a farmhouse in Gowdagere village, Sira taluk. In his complaint registered at the Turuvekere Police Station, Rangayya alleged that his son Lohithashwa R., 43, has been threatening him over the phone.Lohitashwa, a cab driver, had surrendered to the Kamakshipalya police after allegedly stabbing his wife, K. Rekha, near Sunkadakatte bus stand on Magadi Road in September last year. Rangayya told the police that on March 3, 2026, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., he received a call from a mobile number to his phone. During the call, Lohithashwa allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh and warned him not to disclose that he was calling from inside the jail.The accused also allegedly claimed that his associates had visited the complainant’s house twice and were keeping a watch on him. He further threatened that if the money was not paid within a week, he would have the complainant killed through his associates. Fearing for his safety, the elderly man lodged a complaint.Based on the complaint, the Turuvekere police have taken up a case and transferred it to the Parappana Agrahara police for further investigation, on Sunday.
