Rory Jennings has ripped into Liam Rosenior for his post-match comments after Chelsea’s defeat to Newcastle United. The Blues were beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in a blow to their hopes of Champions League qualification.Rosenior has revealed why the Chelsea players huddled around the refereeGettyPrior to kick-off, the home side attempted to form a huddle around the match ball inside the centre circle as they recently did against Aston Villa. However, they did so as referee Paul Tierney was stood there, leaving the official inside the Chelsea huddle. Why did Chelsea huddle around the ball?Rosenior reacted to the pre-match moment following the defeat, but has confused fans and pundits with his explanation of the incident. The Chelsea boss explained: “I’m disappointed. There’s more focus and emphasis on the things that don’t matter.“I’m going to make it really clear. I want to protect my players. I’m respectful to the game.“My players made the decision that they wanted to be around the ball, to respect the ball and show unity and leadership.“That is not my decision. That was a decision between the leadership group and the team.“There is nothing that they’re doing with that huddle that is disrespectful to the opposition.”talkSPORT verdictJennings was less than impressed with the remarks, which he labelled ‘utter nonsense’ on Sunday. The talkSPORT co-host reacted to Rosenior’s comments on The Warm Up.The Blues boss claimed his players wanted to ‘respect the ball’ with their huddleGettyView Tweet: https://t.co/fhCRunycBXHe admitted: “Look, I’ve never played the game, but he’s talking about doing a huddle around a football in order to respect it. This is nonsense, isn’t it. This is utter nonsense.“I don’t understand how we can actually be having a conversation where he’s talking and we’ve heard him say things in the past.“Remember when he was talking about he’s a manager and he wants to help men age? He’s a manager who helps the aging of men.“You’re like, ‘okay, you sound like a bit of a bozo, but I’m going to try and give you the benefit of the doubt because it sounds so ridiculous’.“You’re talking about doing a huddle to show respect to an inanimate object. It’s a football, you don’t need to show respect to an inanimate object. So I just think this is atrocious.”Jennings had been referencing a clip of Rosenior explaining his management style.Jennings has labelled the incident ‘utter nonsense’ after Chelsea’s defeat by NewcastleGettyIn the video, which resurfaced after he was appointed by Chelsea in January, he says: “In English, ‘manage’, if you split the two words, is ‘man’ and ‘age’, so ‘you’re ‘ageing men’.”Meanwhile, Jennings continued: “This is all total idiocy, if you win the game. But to do that, we’re going to do a huddle, we’re going to show our unity.“I’ll show you, there was no unity when Newcastle United scored one of the easiest goals I think I’ve ever seen scored in the Premier League.”Anthony Gordon’s first half strike proved to be the only goal as Newcastle claimed all three points against Chelsea. The result leaves Rosenior’s side sixth in the Premier League, three points adrift of the top four. They have also won just one of their last five league matches.
