AirDrop for Galaxy devices is apparently just around the corner

Wait 5 sec.

Google made Quick Share compatible with AirDrop last year, allowing for seamless file transfers between Android devices and iPhones. The company kept this feature limited to its Pixel 10 phones initially, but it did say that compatibility will expand to other devices, including non-Pixel phones.Recent comments from a top Samsung executive reveal that AirDrop support for Galaxy devices may be coming in the very near future. Samsung will enable it through a software updateAccording to a report out of South Korea, Choi Won-jun, COO of Samsung's mobile division revealed during a recent press conference in Japan that AirDrop compatibility will be supported from the Galaxy S26 series. It will be released sequentially through software updates. While it appears that Samsung may introduce this functionality with the Galaxy S26 series initially, there's nothing stopping it from rolling out the AirDrop support for other devices. It's just requires an update, anyway, so there's no reason why we won't get AirDrop support on many more Samsung Galaxy devices.Google's working on creating this bridge for Quick Share into Apple's walled garden is going to make lives easier for users of both platforms. It will become much easier to share large files between the platforms, something that has previously been unnecessarily difficult. No word as yet on when we may see Samsung roll this out via a software update, but the comments coming from a top executive are a good sign that it may be sooner rather than later.
