The Keta Municipal Hospital has emerged as the overall Best Hospital in the Volta Region, a feat that has brought pride to the municipality. The hospital’s achievement was announced at the 2025 annual performance review of the Volta Regional Health Directorate, where two others, Ho Municipal Hospital and Sogakope District Hospital, were also awarded for high performance. The Keta Municipal Health Directorate also received an award for high performance, along with the North Tongu District Health Directorate; the Afadzato South District Health Directorate emerged as the Overall Best Directorate in the region. Mr Emmanuel Kona, Keta Municipal Director of Health Services, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the wins were a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication to delivering quality healthcare services to the people. He attributed success to several factors, including prioritising staff welfare and interest, good customer care, teamwork, and re-orienting service delivery to meet clients’ needs. “Management prioritised the interest and welfare of staff, providing psychological, social and financial support where needed to enable them to have the peace of mind to provide the best care. We, the Directorate and the hospital, worked together as a team in planning and strategising, and in all discussions, so that while the curative side is doing its bit, the preventive side is also doing the same, resulting in a holistic approach to addressing issues. “Besides, we regularly conducted client satisfaction surveys in our facilities and realised that waiting time was a problem, so we worked hard to improve that.”“We also rescheduled our services to suit our clients, like traders and fishers, by meeting with them or conducting outreaches during their rest days to have the numbers.” Mr Kona also highlighted the strong inter-sectoral support and collaboration with political and traditional authorities and the local media, which helped to foster a conducive environment for healthcare delivery. He mentioned the municipal offices of the Ghana Education Service, National Commission for Civic Education, Information Services Department, Ghana Water Company Limited and Electricity Company of Ghana, particularly for supporting their work, contributing significantly to improved healthcare outcomes. The Health Director stressed that the achievement of the hospital and the Directorate was a reflection of the commitment of their staff to delivering quality healthcare services to the people, with the management team demonstrating a clear understanding of the needs of the people and working tirelessly and with key collaborators to address them. The two-day annual performance review conference in Ho was held on the theme: “Providing Round-the-Clock Quality-Focused Free Primary Health Care and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Control: The Role of the Health Workforce.” It brought together health managers, stakeholders, and development partners from the region and across the country to take stock of performance in healthcare delivery in the past year and to strategise on ways to improve health outcomes this year. Various speakers acknowledged the resilience, dedication and professionalism the health workforce in the region demonstrated amidst complex challenges in improving the health and well-being of the people while calling for continued support to improve healthcare delivery.
