Report: Ricardo Pepi’s proposed Fulham move breaks down

Ricardo Pepi’s proposed move to English Premier League side Fulham has reportedly broken down. PSV and Fulham have failed to agree on a deal for Pepi, ending the latest saga for the American forward, Dutch outlet ED reported Saturday. The two clubs reportedly agreed on a €40 million [$46 million] transfer fee earlier this week, but could not agree on when the deal would be made official, according to the report. In addition, Fulham wanted to retain the ability to pull out of the move before the summer transfer window opened if Pepi suffered an injury. Pepi did travel to London this past week and passed his medical at Fulham, but for now will remain a PSV player. Fulham previously showed interest in acquiring Pepi during the winter, but were not able to agree to a deal as PSV failed to seal Pepi’s replacement prior to the January Transfer Window closing. “In the end, no agreement was reached on the moment when responsibility for the player would be transferred,” PSV director of football affairs Earnie Stewart said. “We were already in talks with Fulham during the winter break, when they made their move just before the transfer window closed. At that point, we couldn’t bring in a replacement anymore, so the transfer couldn’t go through. “But a week later, we resumed discussions and the process got underway again. That issue of responsibility for the player was a very important detail throughout. We did get a bit closer on it, but in the end, we were still too far apart,” Stewart added. Pepi suffered a broken arm in early January but has since returned to consistent action for the Eredivisie leaders. He has scored two goals in four appearances since returning in late-February and overall has 13 goals in all competitions for PSV. Pepi is slated to join up with the U.S. men’s national team this month for March friendlies against Belgium and Portugal. He failed to score in his only USMNT cap in 2025 and will fight with Folarin Balogun and Patrick Agyemang for minutes over the next two weeks.
