It might sound surprising but Samsung hasn't increased the charging speed on its top-of-the-line foldable for more than five years now. The company introduced 25W wired fast charging with the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and hasn't bumped it up at all since then. That may be set to change later this year with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the new, wider Galaxy Z Fold phone it has in the works. A meaningful upgrade that mattersSamsung's regulatory filings with China's 3C agency for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Wide Fold have appeared online. These filings show that both foldable phones will have support for 45W wired fast charging. Samsung is also expected to fit a larger battery in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, thereby delivering meaningful upgrades on both accounts. A larger battery that's capable of charging faster than ever before will certainly go a long way in improving the user experience. This is a welcome change as it finally brings the top-of-the-line foldable at par with some of Samsung's other premium devices that offer faster charging. No such upgrade appears to be in the pipeline for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, though. The certification paperwork for that device reveals that it will retain the 25W wired fast charging support as existing models.Samsung is expected to unveil its new foldable phones in the second half of this year.
