Her father was a prominent doctor and opened a clinic in the Belgian Congo. He also served as the personal physician of Mobutu Sese Seko, the President of Zaire.After graduating with a degree in drama from the College of William and Mary, Close made her Broadway debut in 1974’s Love for Love. As her success in theater grew, Close caught the attention of Hollywood. In 1982, she made her big screen debut in the film, The World According to Garp, for which she also received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Throughout her career, Close has received high praise for her work on stage, film, and television.
