The key details for the 2027 MLS Sprint Season have been revealed. MLS announced its key details for the future shift to a summer-to-spring calendar. The 2027 Sprint Season will kick off in February and run conclude with the 2027 MLS Cup in May.Each club will play 14 intra-conference matches against each one of their in-division opponents (seven at home, seven away). Regular season play will run from February-April, with the top eight teams in each of the two conferences qualifying for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The postseason format will see both conferences play in a single-elimination bracket format to determine a conference champion. The Eastern Conference Champion and Western Conference Champion will then square off in MLS Cup. Not only will the Sprint Season crown an MLS Cup champion, but it will also have international competition implications. Five teams will qualify for the 2028 CONCACAF Champions Cup based off of Sprint Season results while 18 will qualify for the 2028 Leagues Cup. The 2027 Sprint Season schedule, including each team’s home and away matchups, will be announced in the coming months.MLS’ new summer-to-spring format will officially get underway in July 2027 and conclude with MLS Cup in May 2028. Similar to many other international leagues, MLS will observe a midwinter break from mid-December through early February, with no league matches scheduled in January.
