Owner of Kent venue linked to meningitis outbreak speaks out as clubbers urged to get treatment | The IndependentNotifications can be managed in browser preferences.Jump to contentIndependentSwipe for next articleIndependent Bulletin homepageDownload our appAllNewsSportCultureLifestylePA ReportersMonday 16 March 2026 23:33 GMTStudents queue for antibiotics at the University of Kent as two people die from meningitis in the areaThe UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has urged anyone who visited Club Chemistry in Canterbury between 5 and 7 March to come forward for preventative antibiotic treatment after a meningitis outbreak.Owner of the nightclub, Louise Jones-Roberts, said that more than 2,000 people would have visited the venue during those dates and that it will remain closed until further notice.She said she had managed to contact around 90 out of 95 members of staff at the club and they had gone to get antibiotics.Ms Jones-Roberts went on to say that she “wouldn’t have opened this weekend” had she known that people had already started to show symptoms of the illness and that she is “worried about another potential outbreak”.She added: “I’m devastated for the families affected. It’s so incredibly sad.
