There’s no reason to. We’re gonna destroy their ability to hurt us, have a nuclear weapon, build missiles to hit America, and terrorize the region.” He then addressed the president directly: “Kharg Island, 90% of their income comes from oil and gas revenue. A hundred percent of that revenue generating capability is on a single outlet. Hours before his comments, Representative Pete Sessions also weighed in, telling a news outlet that the 2,500 U.S. Marines currently heading to the Middle East are preparing to “secure the island.” Graham has been a vocal figure on Iran policy, and his history of pushing hard for the Iran war makes this latest stance worth paying close attention to. Sessions suggested that this would not count as an invasion or as having “boots on the ground in combat circumstances,” echoing Graham’s framing.
