Members of some of the aggrieved poor families affected by the February 24 demolition drive in Bhoodan lands at Velugumatla in Khammam made a fervent appeal to the government to render justice to them.Narrating their tales of woe to a fact-finding committed headed by former High Court judge Justice B. Chandra Kumar in Khammam on Wednesday, they deplored that they did not get house site pattas at Velugumatla on a par with others affected by the demolition drive last month.According to sources, they recounted how the demolition drive rendered them homeless and pushed them into penury. Some of them alleged that they were deprived of house site pattas at Velugumatla due to ‘discrepancies’ in the socio-economic survey conducted by the Revenue staff in the aftermath of the demolition drive.“They are spreading a false propaganda saying we are seeking Indiramma houses in our villages,” said an aggrieved woman, insisting that house site pattas be given to them at the same site in Velugumatla to safeguard their livelihoods. The members of the fact-finding committee gave a patient hearing and expressed their solidarity with the aggrieved poor people. The committee comprised Major Madhan Kumar (retired), several social activists, professors and advocates among others.Published - March 19, 2026 12:28 am IST
