A 26-year-old man from Tarxien has received a suspended prison sentence after admitting to punching a tourist following a traffic collision. The incident occurred in Luqa, just 90 minutes after the tourist had arrived in Malta. The Danish national was driving along Triq il-Kunsill tal-Ewropa on 10th March of 2024 when he was involved in a crash with a vehicle driven by the accused’s father. After both drivers exited their cars, the tourist allegedly pushed the other motorist. The accused, Owen Cremona, was then contacted by his girlfriend and rushed to the scene.Upon arrival, the tourist reportedly attempted to push him as well, prompting Cremona to punch him in the eye, causing grievous injuries.During court proceedings, it emerged that while a medico-legal expert initially indicated the injuries could be permanent, this could not be confirmed. The victim was meant to be re-examined after a year, but had already left Malta by that time, and the prosecution closed its case. The court ultimately handed Cremona a two-year prison sentence, suspended for four years. A three-year restraining order was also issued in favour of the victim according to Times of Malta. The case was presided over by Magistrate Kevan Azzopardi, while lawyers Franco Debono and Adreana Zammit appeared for the defence.•
