Barely an hour. That was how long it took before Athena spotted the Great Gate in the distance. The moment she shared her sight with Arthur, he understood exactly why the thing had ‘great’ in its name.It was a massive fortification—a freakishly tall wall of stone reinforced with wood, with an even larger castle rising behind it. The entire thing was nestled in a narrow valley between two mountains, creating the perfect choke point. Anything that wished to enter the Kingdom had only one option: to pass through the large steel gate in the center of the wall.A pretty damn impressive sight, especially for a world without developed technology. Given Arthur’s patchy memories, he could barely think of anything from his old life that matched its sheer size. Then again, he had never been interested in such things. That said, as imposing as the Great Gate was, what stood on the endless scorched fields far away from it was much more terrifying.Demons. Hundreds or maybe even thousands of them.Fiends. Hounds. Cyclopes. Those made up most of the army, but they weren’t the only threats present. The skeletal bats with their vermin cargo hovered far behind, while at the front stood beasts that Arthur had never seen before. They reminded him of a bit of a T-rex, only fatter and without limbs at the front. Aside from that, the creatures were blood-red, with some strange, human-sized black cannons attached to their backs. Whether those even worked was anyone’s guess. Now, if that wasn’t bad enough, the three Hell Gates looming behind the army definitely were. Thankfully, they were only about as large as a Cyclops.
