‘Enough is enough’ – Jaxson Dart’s time is now as booing Giants fans trigger Russell Wilson decision in New York

Wait 5 sec.

After only three games, the Russell Wilson experiment in New York has come to an end.Jaxson Dart, the Giants’ first round pick, has been named the starting quarterback moving forward, as Wilson heads to the bench.Wilson and the Giants are 0-3 and it’s time for Dart to step into the starting roleGettyThree weeks into 2025 season, and the franchise that finished with the NFL‘s joint-worst record last time around (3-14), is struggling again.New York sits at 0-3, and has dropped games against the Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.Wilson threw for just 160 yards and two interceptions in Sunday’s heated 22-9 loss to the Chiefs.A change at the quarterback position was needed and talkSPORT’s Senior US Writer Brian T. Smith is all in on making the change to the promising young quarterback waiting in the wings.“Enough is enough. Russell Wilson had one good game and the New York Giants still haven’t won — that says it all,” Smith began, calling for rookie Jaxson Dart to get his chance.“Brian Daboll is throwing his job away by continuing to insist that Wilson deserves to be the Giants’ starter. “Sometimes it’s an ideal for a rookie QB to watch and wait. This isn’t that time.“Dart proved in the preseason that he was already ready for the next step. Giants fans want him now. “So why is Daboll so reluctant to start the rookie QB that he drafted?“Daboll is 18-35 as an NFL head coach and was almost fired last year. He should be smarter than this. Or maybe he’s trying to get the Giants to fire him.”Daboll seemed to have listened to Smith, as he is making the move to the rookie.Giants fans turn on Wilson after Week 3 horror showIn what was quite the surprise, New York’s matchup with Kansas City on Sunday featured two teams searching for their first win of the season. But even before the first half had concluded, it became clear the Giants were going to slip to 0-3 with another uninspiring performance. The Giants were booed by home fans as some chanted for Dart to replace WilsonGettyFans made their feelings clear in the home opener, with boos ringing out around MetLife Stadium, as Daboll’s struggling offense produced just 290 yards.“I’d be booing too, to be honest with you, in terms of not being good enough, not scoring, not finishing. I understand that,” the head coach said post-game.“That’s the nature of it. We got to be better.”Amid the booing, chants of ‘We Want Dart!’ were also heard from the frustrated Giants fan base, with many calling for the rookie quarterback to permanently replace veteran Wilson as the starter.Calls grow for Dart to start in New YorkSome of those shouts broke out after Wilson’s second interception of the game, which came with the score tied 6-6, and less than a minute remaining in the first half.“There are highs and lows, and always tough moments,” Wilson said of the rough reception.Dart played three snaps for the Giants but there are calls for him to start in Week 4GettyThe Chiefs secured a 22-9 win at Metlife Stadium on SundayGetty“You know, you got to have thick skin. You got to be able to know who you are, the player that you are, know what you’re capable of.”Post-game, Daboll chose not to confirm if Wilson will start next week against the Los Angeles Chargers.Dart, meanwhile, is focused on learning behind a Super Bowl-winning veteran, but admitted the Giants offense isn’t ‘playing up to standard’.“I’m just trying to be a really good teammate,” he said.NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?“Any time he’s coming off on the sideline, I like to just kind of listen to what he has to say, to know what his perspective is on things.“To get the coaching points from the coaches and try to do my best to encourage the guys around me.“I’ve said this all before. This is all kind of new to me. I’ve tried to just take a different perspective. It’s hard when the offense isn’t playing up to standard.”Dart was on the field for just three snaps against the Chiefs — and handed off to running back Cam Skattebo twice — while also rushing for three yards of his own.View Tweet: https://twitter.com/hashtag/giants?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwGiants fans will now get their wish, as Dart will make his first career start this Sunday against the Chargers.Dart impressing Giants teammates as offense struggles early on“I think he’s going to be as prepared as he could be, because you have Russ (Wilson), you have Jameis (Winston). He has a great coach,” offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor told talkSPORT last week.“Obviously, Brian Daboll is teaching them every single day. You see them talking in the background about little things, probably within the offense.Eluemunor believes Dart will be ready to start when he is called uponGetty“But then also, his maturity level — he doesn’t act like a rookie, he acts like a vet.“I think that’s huge because sometimes you get rookies who act like little children.”Eluemunor added that while he’s got the mentality down, it will take some time for Dart, like all rookies, to get acclimatised to life in the NFL.“A lot of times in college, they’re only going against a certain amount of defenses. In the NFL, there’s multiple defenses, you go against everyone,” he explained.Coach Daboll has not yet confirmed who will start for the Giants in Week 4Getty“In college, you may have a talented guy here, or you may have talented DB, or a talented lineman.“In the NFL, everyone’s talented. It’s the NFL.“You have the best player in every single position on defense. The speed of the game is completely different.“That’s why I think younger guys struggle once they get into the game. And we talk from experience, the speed is not comparable to college.“There’s so many things you have to process… Dart has done a great job, and he’s really picked up this offense made his own.“Whenever he gets a chance this year and next year, he’s gonna do great.”With fans calling for Dart to play, and the rookie already impressing teammates like Eluemunor — who will be tasked with blocking for him — it was a no-brainer for Daboll to give the rookie his shot.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more.
