(ANI Photo)Kalol has such huge development possibilities that it could be merged with Ahmedabad in next 10 years, said Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEOKalol assembly constituency is part of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency represented by Shah.Shah was addressing a public gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of developmental works worth Rs 144 crore in Kalol municipality.Shah said, “The kind of development Kalol has witnessed in the last 5-10 years… people of Kalol be ready. Kalol has such huge development possibilities that it could be merged with Ahmedabad in next 10 years. Today, a number of development works have started here.”He listed the works that have been started, including a sewerage treatment plant, redevelopment of a lake in Kalol, construction of a rain-basera and borewells among others etc.He said that minute planning has been done to ensure that Kalol becomes an ideal assembly constituency among both rural and urban constituencies by 2029.In this context, Shah also said that the Central government has started constructing a 350-bed hospital in Kalol which will be inaugurated by 2027. He added that after that, the people of Kalol won’t be required to go to Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar for any health-related requirement. Shah said that the laboratory at the upcoming hospital will be better than the laboratory of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.Story continues below this adThe Union Minister said that planning has been done to ensure that Kalol does not face waterlogging issues during the monsoon. On Tuesday, Shah also chaired a high-level meeting with top officials of Gujarat government in Gandhinagar Circuit House to review the action plan to resolve the waterlogging problem, during monsoon, in areas falling under Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Shah said that the state authorities have signed an MoU with Torrent Group’s UNM Foundation to maintain the take lakes of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.Notably, UNM Foundation has signed the MoU with six civic authorities, including Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, Ahmedabad District Panchayat, Gandhinagar District Panchayat, Kalol Municipality and Mansa Municipality to maintain 69 lakes in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar districts.On the occasion, Shah also spoke about the recent decision of the government to cut GST rates which will bring down prices of many items. He also appealed to people to buy only indigenous goods.
