By: Express News ServiceMumbai | September 23, 2025 10:57 PM IST 3 min readIn a bid to fix potholes, the BMC has deployed one road engineer for each of its 227 wards to conduct daily inspections and proactively fill pits to prevent untoward incidents (Archive)In light of recurring pothole woes in Jogeshwari’s Oshiwara area, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) registered a case against a slum rehabilitation project (SRA) developer at Oshiwara Police Station for dumping rainwater directly on the road without proper drainage channels.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEOAccording to senior civic officials, the condition of the road along Oshiwara Udyan Marg had been deteriorating due to potholes. An inspection of the site showed that an SRA developer, undertaking a project at Oshiwara Udyan Marg, had been releasing stagnating rainwater from the project site without taking any measures to channelise the rainwater. In the absence of a drain, the water had been dumped on the road through a motor pump which eroded the road quality.“Taking a serious note of this, the civic body has filed a complaint against the concerned developer at Oshiwara police station,” said the BMC on Tuesday. Officials said that the case was registered under section 125 of the IPC as well as sections 115(a) and 117 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The project, which is underway along Oshiwara Garden in Jogeshwari West’s Swami Vivekanand Marg, is slated to be completed by October 2025.BMC officials said the potholes triggered by the water being pumped without channels had been previously fixed at least thrice — on August 2, August 23 and September 3 — when the city had experienced heavy episodes of rain. However, the deteriorating condition of the road again came to light on Monday, when fresh potholes surfaced on the road on the heels of heavy rain over the past three days accompanied by heavy traffic. The civic body also fixed the potholes on Monday.In a bid to fix potholes, the BMC has deployed one road engineer for each of its 227 wards to conduct daily inspections and proactively fill pits to prevent untoward incidents. This year, the BMC also launched the ‘My Pothole Quick Fix’ app, which enables citizens to flag pothole related complaints.So far, citizens have flagged at least 15,652 complaints pertaining to potholes since June. Records from the BMC show that of these, 15,338 potholes have been fixed by the civic body, while at least 4,298 complaints were deemed invalid. Between June and Tuesday (September 23), the highest number of pothole complaints were flagged in S ward, which encompasses Bhandup, where 2,521 potholes were flagged. This was followed by 1,443 pothole complaints in K/West ward (Andheri west, Jogeshwari, Versova, Juhu among others); 1,348 in Ghatkopar, Vidyavihar (N ward) and 1,240 in P/North ward (Malad, Manori, Malwani).
