Avant Arte has collaborated with the artist Maurizio Cattelan for a project that will include a scavenger hunt for a new work.At the core of the new project is the sculptural self-portrait We Are The Revolution (2025), which references Joseph Beuys’s famed felt suit. The Cattelan work is aimed at lampooning “the inflated self-importance of contemporary art while offering a sincere reflection on the evolving role of the artist in society,” per Avant Arte.“If you never thought you would be able to hang my effigy in your home, that makes two of us,” Cattelan said in a press statement. The resin We Are The Revolution sculptures will be limited to 1,000 editions, priced at €1,500 each (approximately $1,770 USD) and set to be released through a randomized draw on Avant Arte’s website. Entries for the drawing will close on October 24.The online art platform is also launching the sale of the new work through a scavenger hunt in New York, Amsterdam, and London. Prices for the sculpture will range from $0.99 to €9,999, depending on the location, with the work appearing in sites such as market stalls, bodegas, and an antiques dealership. The scavenger hunt comes after Cattelan’s Comedian (2019), informally known as his “banana sculpture,” sold for $6.24 million at auction last year.“Maurizio Cattelan’s work often plays with how value, scarcity and desire are constructed — this hunt invites an audience across the world to retrieve his sculpture editions from unexpected locations in three major cities, performing some of these ideas in real time,” Avant Arte CEO and cofounder Mazdak Sanii told ARTnews in an email statement. “We’re excited to bring a creatively involved project with one of the most influential artists of our time to a new generation of enthusiasts and collectors.”The scavenger hunt will take place from September 30 to October 7 through the release of two clues per location, with the hints to be offered on Avant Arte’s website. The sculptures will be available in physical locations in New York, while digital-only hunts will be offered in London and Amsterdam.
