(Express Photo)A single-seat trainer aircraft skidded off the runway shortly after landing in Gujarat’s Amreli district on Sunday. The incident took place around 3 pm and the trainee pilot escaped unhurt, officials said.The incident comes five months after an aircraft accident at the Amreli airport claimed the life of a 22-year-old trainee pilot from Ahmedabad in April.Speaking to The Indian Express, Amreli Collector Vikalp Bhardwaj said that the single-seater aircraft belongs to a private aviation institute which is based at the Amreli airport.Photographs showed the aircraft lying in the grass on the side of the runway, its left wing high in the air and its superstructure tilted into the ground after skidding off the right side of the runway.Collector Bhardwaj said, “The single seater fixed wing trainer aircraft slipped off the runway while landing. The pilot is safe.”He said the incident took place between 3.15 and 3.30 pm, adding there was no damage to the runway or aircraft. The plane has been moved to a hangar in the airport with permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the officer added.Further investigation will be carried out by the Aircraft Accidents Investigation Bureau (AIB).Story continues below this adNotably, this is the sixth aircraft accident reported in Gujarat this year.On June 12, Air India flight A-I 171, with 242 people on board, crashed in Ahmedabad city shortly after take-off. A total of 260 people lost their lives in the tragedy, including 241 people on board the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft and 19 people on the ground.On April 22, Aniket Mahajan, a trainee pilot, lost his life to an aircraft crash in Amreli that had taken place shortly after take-off at about 12:50 pm. Mahajan, a resident of Ahmedabad, was a trainee at Vision Flying training institute located at Amreli airport.On April 2, a two-seater Jaguar fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in an open field in Suvarda village of Jamnagar district of Gujarat.
