3 Liverpool players Arne Slot should start and 3 to leave out vs. Galatasaray

Wait 5 sec.

Arne Slot has selection decisions to make as Liverpool travel to face Galatasaray on Tuesday, with arguments for and against who gets the nod in the starting lineup.Slot was able to rest nine regular starters against Southampton in midweek, but that rest did not return three points at Crystal Palace on Sunday in a less-than-impressive performance.Liverpool got their first three points in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid with a strong XI, but there is an argument for Slot to tweak his side once more for the trip to Istanbul. With a trip to Chelsea to come on Saturday, we have named three players Slot should start in the Champions League and three he should leave out. START – Federico ChiesaTwo goals and two assists across his six appearances ought to have earned Chiesa the right to a place in the starting XI, even if he was initially left out of the Champions League squad. He is forcing the issue when others in the team are struggling to get going, and that spark and persistence is what Liverpool need to get a result.Chiesa is in better physical shape than last season and can be trusted to play his role, not to mention he is one of few who have momentum on his side. The Italian can bring others into the game with his movement, and feeding his confidence this early on will only hold the Reds in good stead moving forward. OUT – Milos KerkezThe Hungarian simply needs time to settle at Liverpool and coming out of the side before the October international break may be the best decision for him.He has all the tools and qualities to succeed and deserves the patience to undergo that process. It didn’t work out too badly for Andy Robertson! This match will be played with a raucous atmosphere, and experience may be exactly what Liverpool need to come away with points while still very much finding their feet as a new-look side. Not to mention, Kerkez has featured in every game so far for the club, playing the ninth-most minutes in addition to his efforts for Hungary. START – Andy RobertsonAs abovementioned, Kerkez has not had the smoothest of introductions to life at Anfield as he settles into a new way of playing under Slot, and now he can be taken out of the fire.Robertson is a no-brainer to come in at left-back, and the Scot will be somewhat fresh after just two starts at club level so far this season. While not the player he once was, his experience and connection with those in midfield and Cody Gakpo ought to help Liverpool find some form and consistency. It makes sense to bring Robertson in. The question is, can he start two games in five days? OUT – Ibrahima KonateThis one almost speaks for itself. It has been an inconsistent and erratic start to the campaign for Ibrahima Konate, who was particularly loose in possession at Palace and invited pressure on Alisson.Perhaps errors are more obvious next to the colossal Virgil van Dijk, but he needs a player competing against him to bring out his best, so why not task Joe Gomez with just that? START – Joe GomezThe injury to Leoni has only elevated the importance of Gomez, with only three fit specialist senior centre-backs in the squad now.Gomez looks assured when next to Van Dijk, and although he may need time to settle having only played 119 minutes this season, he is more than capable of establishing himself as a regular starter. He should not be limited to cup matches only, this is a top-class defender who has proven time and time again what he is capable of when fit. OUT – Mohamed SalahIt seems almost incomprehensible that Salah would be named as an ‘out’, but he is struggling to get involved and be a constant threat.A role as an impact sub may be just what he needs to rediscover some form against, what you hope will be, tired legs late in the match.Liverpool have the options with every forward player fit and available to make this change, and it could come in handy against Chelsea on the weekend if the Egyptian is fresh. He has played 630 minutes already and while he can always conjure a piece of magic out of nowhere, there is no reason why that cannot happen from the bench.
