Michael Strahan insists Jaxson Dart is being set up to fail as Giants quarterback

Wait 5 sec.

Michael Strahan is not convinced Jaxson Dart will turn things around for the New York Giants. After the Giants dropped offseason signing Russell Wilson in favour of their rookie Dart, the Fox Sports analyst isn’t convinced we’ll see an immediate impact.Dart has replaced Wilson as the starting quarterbackGettyStrahan, who spent his entire 15-year career with the G-Men, suggested the issues in New York don’t rest at the door of the quarterback, but rather in the system of head coach Brian Daboll.Russell Wilson not the main problem – Michael Strahan“When you look at other guys who’ve had challenges in New York and they go to other places and they’re playing well, you start to wonder, is it the players or is it the system?” Strahan said on Fox Sports Kickoff ahead of the Giants’ clash with the Chargers.“What is it? Something’s gotta give. You keep on mixing up the ingredients, but maybe you’ve just got a bad dish.”Strahan is referring to Daniel Jones as an example of a player who struggled in New York but excelled elsewhere.Jones has helped the Indianapolis Colts race to a 3-0 start, and the 28-year-old is being backed to win Comeback Player of the Year.Strahan isn’t convinced that Dart will be the catalyst in New York.“I’m kind of torn,” Strahan added. “I know how tough it is to play in New York. I know all the pressures of New York. We’re going to throw this young quarterback in there, and everyone is thinking, “‘Here comes Jaxson Dart, he had a great preseason and he’s going to turn us around. He’s going to be the savior.’“It’s not that easy because football’s such a difficult sport. You have so many guys around you that you’ve got to depend on. Dart has replaced Wilson as the starting quarterback@NFLonFoxWilson’s future in New York looks unclearGETTY“You need to protect up front. Guys have got to get open in their routes. There’s so much.”Things had to change – Charles WoodsonDespite Strahan’s detailed reasoning, his colleague and fellow analyst Charles Woodson disagreed with him. Woodson pointed to how the Giants’ 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 was a clear signal that a change at quarterback was necessary.“I think it was time,” Woodson said. “Watching that game, I just feel like sometimes, I get that a lot of things have to go right, you’ve got to block and the whole thing, sometimes guys aren’t buying into what you’re doing. “I think the body language starts to talk to you. When I see Malik Nabers on the sideline and he’s looking slumped over, something’s not connecting. “When I watch the end of that game, and I watch Russell Wilson – he was living in the past two weeks ago when he was throwing all those bombs against the Cowboys. “Then, the last couple of plays, he’s throwing bombs into the stands on the 10-yard line.”Nevertheless, Dart starting has reinvigorated a gloomy Giants fanbase who have been calling for the rookie to replace Wilson. As the New York faithful haven’t shied away from booing Wilson either, as was evidenced when he threw a second-quarter interception in Week 1.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more.
