The National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially released its lineup of parliamentary flagbearers for the 2026 general elections, a move that has brought excitement, shock, and disappointment, particularly within Uganda’s entertainment industry.The list, unveiled by the party’s Election Management Committee, confirmed several entertainers who secured the flag, while others were left out despite spirited campaigns.Musician-turned-politician Geoffrey Lutaaya successfully defended his position and will once again represent NUP in Kakuuto Constituency, while comedian Muyonjo Hussein (Swengere) emerged as the party’s choice for Jinja North.Singer-turned-legislator Hillary Kiyaga (Dr. Hilderman) retained his flag for Mawokota North, continuing his political journey. Nina Kankunda (Nina Roz) earned her first-ever ticket, representing NUP in the race for Sembabule Woman MP.Veteran media personality Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa also celebrated victory after securing the Nansana Municipality ticket ahead of musician Ibrahim Mayanja (Big Eye), whose hopes of making it to Parliament were dashed.Mathias Walukagga pledges not to run as independent if not selected as the party flag bearerIn one of the most surprising outcomes, singer Mathias Walukagga pulled off a political upset by defeating seasoned legislator Medard Lubega Sseggona to clinch the Busiro County East flag.Meanwhile, former journalist Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa missed out on the Mityana Woman MP ticket, which was handed to Mukisa Proscovia. Similarly, media personality Mary Flavia Namulindwa was denied the flag for Gomba East, despite her active grassroots mobilization.Another notable victory went to Ivan Kyeyune, popularly known as the voice behind NTV Uganda’s Zungulu, who secured the ticket for Nakasongola County.However, not all entertainers were lucky.
