Calling the new building “no less sacred than a temple,” Modi told a huge gathering of party leaders – Delhi ministers, MLAs, and MPs — that a BJP karyalaya should never be measured only in bricks and walls.“A BJP office is not just a building — it is a strong link between the party and the people’s expectations. For us, every karyalaya is a sacred place, where we work for people. The more empathy and service-mindedness reflected in the decisions made from this new office, the more beneficial they will be for the people of Delhi,” he said. The new party headquarters, the PM said, should embody the party’s character as a “24×7 organisation.” “Our karyalaya should not be known for its facilities but for its outreach. Whoever enters this office will carry the hopes of someone in need. It is our collective duty to fulfill those hopes,” he added. For decades, the Delhi unit of the party has operated from a single-storey bungalow on Pandit Pant Marg — a makeshift office with a small open courtyard ringed by rooms, tucked between government-allotted residences where space was limited and meetings were often cramped.By contrast, the new headquarters is a five-storey building that combines modern amenities with touches of South Indian architecture — a peach-beige exterior with glass windows, decorated with tall white pillars. It has been designed to be eco-friendly and includes two basements for parking, a ground floor with a press hall, reception and canteen, a 200–300 seat auditorium on the first floor, morcha and cell offices on the second floor, a library and senior functionaries’ rooms on the third, and offices for the state president, organisation secretary, in-charges and MPs on the top floor. Tracing the BJP’s journey in Delhi from the Jan Sangh era, PM Modi said the national capital has been central to the party’s struggles and growth. “Delhi’s relationship with the party is not just geographical — it is emotional, grounded in values, service, and shared struggles. Since the partition days, when our workers helped displaced families, to the Emergency, when we stood against state repression, to 1984, when our workers protected the Sikh community during riots — Delhi has always been at the heart of the BJP’s activities,” he said.Outside the new headquarters, nagadas played as a band in Navratri attire danced to festive tunes, and workers waved party flags in rhythm. For many, the scene captured the party’s journey — from a small rented bungalow in the residential area of Lutyens’ Delhi to a grand permanent address at the city’s political heartline — where the national headquarters of most political parties are now based.BJP national president JP Nadda said the inauguration marks the fulfillment of a long-awaited goal.“After a long wait, the Delhi BJP has its own permanent office, inaugurated by the Prime Minister himself,” Nadda said. The construction work for the unit had begun after a Bhumi Poojan ceremony in 2023, which was presided over by Nadda.Recalling his early association with PM Modi, Nadda said that the PM has long insisted that party offices must not run out of government accommodations. “He used to tell us: an office opens at 10 am and shuts at 5 pm, but a karyalaya runs 24×7. That is the difference between a mere office and our party’s home.”He added that under Modi’s guidance and the initiative launched by Amit Shah, 787 permanent offices were planned across the country, with 617 completed so far. “The Delhi BJP office is the 618th, and a symbol of how far we have come,” he added.Story continues below this adDelhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the inauguration was a deeply emotional moment.“Since the days of the Jana Sangh, our organisation has been the voice of Delhi. For 45 years, our workers struggled without a permanent address. This office soothes that pain. It is not just a building but a center of our work culture, where we learn how to serve people effectively,” he said.Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta linked the inauguration to the party’s ongoing Seva Pakhwada. “Modiji’s leadership has given us the courage for such historic steps — from the abrogation of Article 370 to surgical strikes and Operation Sindoor. Today, on the auspicious occasion of Navratri, this office is another step in that direction,” she said.Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Delhi BJP
