He was speaking to reporters following an inspection of works taken up to fill potholes in the city.He said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had sanctioned Rs 750 crore specifically for pothole repairs. In addition, the Government has decided to release Rs 1,100 crore more for ward‑level road improvements, which will be sanctioned through legislators for works in their constituencies.Major junctions on arterial roads will be concretised, Shivakumar said, noting that the process would take about 26 days. Discussions are underway to manage the traffic when the works are carried out, he added.The state government has recently come under fire from Opposition parties and the general public over the poor condition of roads, primarily in Bengaluru’s peripheral areas.After visiting parts of Bengaluru on September 27, Siddaramaiah set a 30-day deadline for the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the five city corporations to repair the roads and fill potholes.Responding to BJP criticism, Shivakumar remarked that potholes were a nationwide issue and not unique to Karnataka. “If BJP leaders wish, they can accompany me to Delhi. I will show them the potholes even near the prime minister’s residence. This is not about blaming anyone, but the problem exists everywhere,” he said, inviting Opposition leaders to join a delegation to the Centre to seek additional funds for the development of the city.Story continues below this adOn Bengaluru’s garbage crisis, Shivakumar said that officials were directed to trace and file cases against those illegally dumping waste.“Public cooperation is lacking.
