Shubdeep had been in custody since February 21, 2025.The court, considering the completion of investigation and the lengthy trial process, approved bail under Section 483 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The order directed Shubdeep’s release on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 25,000 along with a surety of the same amount.During the hearing, the defence counsel argued that the case was “false and baseless,” claiming no offence could be proved against the accused. The lawyer added that Shubdeep had already been in custody for a long period and his further detention was unnecessary. The state’s counsel opposed the plea, stressing that Shubdeep faced serious allegations of heinous crimes and did not deserve bail.After reviewing the case file, the judge observed that charges were yet to be proven and further custody of the accused was not required. The court also noted that co-accused had already been granted bail, while filing of the chargesheet and completion of trial would take considerable time. Without commenting on the merits of the case, bail was allowed.Case backgroundThe case is linked to FIR no. 01, registered on February 21, 2025, at SSOC police station under sections 249 and 61(2) of the BNSS and Section 25(1)(B) of the Arms Act. S-I Manpreet Singh had received secret information that Shubdeep Singh, a resident of Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Avenue, Amritsar, was sheltering criminals in Mohali, possessing illegal weapons, and planning a major incident with unidentified associates. Acting on this input, an FIR was filed and Shubdeep was arrested. Two .32 bore pistols were recovered from him and his associate Jagdish Singh, alias Jagga.Further investigation led to the arrests of Jagdish Singh, alias Jagga, Hari Singh, and Sachin Deep Singh, along with associates Jagjit Singh, alias Jaggi, Shubham, and Gurdeep Singh alias Deepa, who were allegedly part of the conspiracy to execute a major crime in Punjab.
