The Kerala Kera Karshaka Sahakarana Federation Ltd. (KERAFED), an umbrella organisation of coconut farmers co-operatives, has hit a road block in its efforts to source supplies directly from farmers in Thanjavur district has hit a road block as the cultivators here are demanding higher price than what prevails in the open market.Participating in a meeting with KERAFED officials coordinated by the Horticulture Department officials here recently, the Thanjavur district coconut cultivators welcomed the federation’s move to source raw coconut directly from farmers. However, they said that though they were impressed with the federation’s attempt to negate the Kerala and Tamil Nadu coconut traders’ syndicate in procurement, they wanted a price higher than the open market rate.
