Imagineers conceived a medieval/fantasy-inspired land for Animal Kingdom during the design and planning phase.Due to reported budgetary issues, this land, Beastly Kingdom, was shelved indefinitely and later canceled. In its place came DinoLand, a cheaper, simpler solution to filling in the gaps that Beastly Kingdom left behind at Animal Kingdom. While it certainly added to its charm, this “cheapness” could be felt throughout DinoLand, especially at Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama.This area was intended to look like a roadside attraction, so the theming was pretty authentic. Still, when guests pay hundreds of dollars to visit the Disney theme parks, they expect the best quality, and DinoLand U.S.A. simply did not look as impressive as other areas of the resort, namely Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and even Animal Kingdom’s other explorable lands.Nevertheless, DinoLand featured one thing not found anywhere else at Walt Disney World: dinosaurs. Who doesn’t love to learn about one of history’s most fascinating species of animals, right?Well, guests don’t have much time with DinoLand left, as Disney is set to demolish what remains of the infamous theme park location at the start of next year.Credit: ITM Rebekah B.Related: The Beak and Barrel Effect: Where Else Could Disney Put a Magic Kingdom Bar?Disney first teased the idea of overhauling DinoLand U.S.A. during a D23 conference in 2022, sharing concept art that showed a brand-new take on the land. Gone were dinosaurs, and in their place were recognizable Disney IPs like Moana and Zootopia. Two years later, at D23 2024, Disney once again revealed what it had cooking for DinoLand, though Moana and Zootopia were out. Disney’s plans now include other popular IPs like Indiana Jones and Encanto. These two franchises will headline their own attractions, with the entire park area being rebranded to Tropical Americas. While DinoLand was always controversial and even loathed by some, losing dinosaurs could be a big mistake for Disney. As we said earlier, who doesn’t love dinosaurs? These ferocious beasts are endlessly fascinating to learn about and make for an unforgettable ride or attraction, but it seems Disney is done with ancient beasts for now. This leaves Universal at an advantage as the resort features dinosaurs in a number of experiences. Most notable is Jurassic Park River Adventure, which houses a number of impressive, life-sized dinosaur animatronics.Jurassic World VelociCoaster is another dino-themed attraction, one that continues to be one of the best-reviewed attractions in the country.Credit: DisneyRelated: ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Official Trailer RevealedIt makes sense that Disney would want to renovate DinoLand, but completely removing the dinosaurs is a move that many guests disagree with. Hardcore fans grew to love DinoLand, flaws and all.DINOSAUR is perhaps one of the most unique attractions at Walt Disney World, not for the ride itself but for what it represents. Rarely, if ever, has a Disney theme park ride attempted to actually scare its guests, but DINOSAUR isn’t just scary, it’s bone-chilling. Losing such an intense ride is also a huge loss for a resort and the park, which desperately needs as many attractions as possible. What remains of DinoLand U.S.A. will close in February 2027 to make way for Tropical Americas. DINOSAUR will stay put, but the ride’s story, setting, and theming will be replaced with a new experience based on Indiana Jones.Disney’s Tropical Americas is expected to open in 2027.Will you miss the dinosaurs at Walt Disney World? The post This Could Go Down as Disney World’s Biggest Mistake Ever appeared first on Inside the Magic.
