(Express Photo)The Pune city police and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in a joint operation, demolished a few alleged illegal structures owned by notorious gangster Rizwan, alias Tipu Sattar Pathan, in the Hadapsar area using a bulldozer on Friday.Pathan’s illegal construction at Khwaja Manzil building at Sayyad Nagar included an office and a kiosk among other structures, Rajkumar Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), stated in a press release.Pathan, 34, who was arrested in April this year, and several members of his gang are currently in jail. He and several others, including his brother Ejaz, 39, were arrested in a land grab and extortion case filed by a woman at the Kalepadal police station. The police later invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang in this case.According to the press release, officials of the PMC’s anti-encroachment department of the PMC and a team from the Kalepadal police station, led by Senior Inspector Mansing Patil and Inspector Amar Kalange, razed the alleged illegal structures on Friday.Earlier this month, the police had arrested members of the Pathan gang for allegedly supplying country-made pistols and cartridges to the Andekar gang, which was reportedly planning to take revenge for the murder of former corporator Vanraj Andekar.Vanraj, the son of Bandu Andekar, leader of the Andekar gang, was shot dead near his residence in Nana Peth on September 1 last year. Vanraj’s sister, Sanjivani Komkar, her husband, Jayant Lakshman Komkar, his brother Ganesh Lakshman Komkar, and others, including a rival, Somnath Sayaji Gaikwad from the Ambegaon Pathar area, were arrested in the murder case.The Andekar gang had allegedly conspired to kill Gaikwad’s son for taking revenge, but the police foiled the plan with the arrest of Andekar gang member Datta Balu Kale of Ganesh Peth. The police also arrested two people allegedly linked to the Pathan gang on suspicion that they supplied firearms to the Andekar gang. The Andekar gang shot dead Ganesh Komkar’s son, Ayush, 18, in Bhavani Peth on September 5.
