Gosal was arrested on September 19 in Whitby.Immediately after his release from the Ontario Central East Correctional Centre, Gosal released a video statement, issuing threats aimed at Doval. In the video, Gosal, seen walking out of the prison, declared, “India, I’m out; to support Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, to organise the Khalistan referendum on November 23, 2025. Delhi Banega Khalistan.”Pannun, who leads the SFJ, also responded with direct threats to India’s NSA, saying, “Ajit Doval, why don’t you come to Canada, America or any European country and try to arrest or do any extradition. Doval, I am waiting for you.”Gosal also announced that the next Khalistan “referendum” will be held in Ottawa. He also alleged threats to his life, which he claims to have received from Indian government agents. He claimed the Canadian police informed him of these threats, and he has declined offers of protection.Gosal was arrested along with two individuals, Arman Singh and Jagdeep Singh, during a traffic stop on Highway 407 near Harmony Road in Oshawa. Arman, 23, is a resident of Toronto, while Jagdeep, 41, is from Pickville, New York. Both are reported to be close associates of Pannun, the New York-based designated terrorist and general counsel of SFJ. Jagdeep is known as a journalist and a prominent online advocate for the Khalistan separatist movement in the US.The arrest occurred soon after a meeting between National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and his Canadian counterpart Nathalie G Drouin, signalling a recent thaw in bilateral relations.The police charged Gosal with a dozen offences, including careless use of a handgun and possession of unlicensed firearms. He appeared before the Ontario Superior Court in Oshawa following the arrest.Story continues below this adThis is not Gosal’s first run-in with Canadian law enforcement. In November 2024, Peel Regional Police arrested him on charges of assault with a weapon during a protest outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple in Brampton.Gosal succeeded Hardeep Singh Nijjar as the coordinator of the Khalistan referendum campaign after the latter was killed in British Columbia in June 2023.
