By: Express News ServicePune | September 26, 2025 11:00 PM IST 2 min readThe suspect also sent several friend requests to people in the complainant's friend list through the fake profile (Representative image)DAYS AFTER a 20-year-old woman was targeted and threatened on social media with a fake Instagram profile impersonating her using morphed AI images, Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested 25-year-old who works in the same firm as the victim.A First Information Report in the case has been registered at a police station under the Pimpri Chinchwad police by a 20-year-old complainant who works for a private company. According to her complaint, over a week ago, she received a message on Instagram. She found out that the message was sent to her from her own fake profile.She asked the sender to reveal the identity and asked that the fake profile be deleted. The suspect continued sending her harassing messages.As the complainant warned the sender that she would approach the police, the suspect sent her a photo which was a morphed image created with an AI tool with her face and different outfit. The sender subsequently threatened that more morphed images would be created and circulated on social media. The suspect also sent several friend requests to people in the complainant’s friend list through the fake profile.As a team from the Cyber Crime police of Pimpri Chinchwad launched a probe, communication was initiated with the social media platform to obtain details of the user. The police found that the phone used by the perpetrator was lost by its original owner a few days before. Police further started working on more technical leads and zeroed in on a suspect in the Chakan area. After further verification, the police on Thursday arrested a 25-year-old man who works for the same private company as that of the victim.“We have launched a probe into the exact motive of the suspect behind targeting the victim.
