In-form Manchester City welcome Burnley to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League. The Blues have had a mixed start to the Premier League season, but with comfortable 2-0 cup wins against Napoli and Huddersfield Town, a Manchester Derby victory and a draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the last two weeks, things are looking a little brighter. Here are five things to look out for as City take on Scott Parker’s men:The return of WalkerProbably City’s best ever full back (and in Pep Guardiola’s eyes, one of the best full backs of all time) makes his first return to the Etihad Stadium this weekend.Kyle Walker, who won six Premier League titles, including one as captain, and many other trophies during an eight year stint in East Manchester, joined promoted Burnley in a £5 million deal this summer but he is set to line up for the visitors tomorrow. The 35-year-old was appointed as City captain upon Ilkay Gundogan’s departure in 2023, but things immediately went downhill for him.Public scandals, daft interviews and poor performances on the pitch had a lot of the online fanbase baying for his blood, certainly at the beginning of last season, where City couldn’t buy a win.Walker left initially on loan to AC Milan in January, before sealing his permanent move to strengthen a record breakingly strong Burnley defence this summer. We can expect City’s former number two to receive an excellent reception when his name is read out, but from that point on attention will turn to in-form and always dangerous Jeremy Doku to try and spoil his homecoming.Kovacic on the benchFor the first time this season, we could see Mateo Kovacic in a matchday squad. The experienced Croatian midfielder underwent an achilles injury in May, causing him to miss four months over the summer including the Club World Cup in the USA.But Guardiola says Kovacic could be fit to make the squad, and if fit, he’ll be a welcome addition. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid player has a large trophy cabinet and is very familiar with the type of football the City boss likes to play. He’s technically sound, super intelligent and versatile in midfield. Along with Nico Gonzalez, he’s the only player who truly looks comfortable as a number six in Rodri’s absence, which is important in allowing Rodri to bed back into the side after his anterior cruciate ligament injury.Hopefully, he’ll be named amongst the substitutes, and perhaps even get a few minutes to get him back up to speed.A Haaland hattrick?Erling Haaland loves scoring goals, particularly at the Etihad Stadium against promoted teams. The 25-year-old has had his worst ever start to a Premier League season, with a measly… six goals in five league appearances.A truly unbelievable stat, particularly considering he’s played in two defeats and a draw in City’s opening five games. I think Haaland will score against Burnley, and he’ll certainly have his sights on two, three or more.A similar team to United, Napoli and ArsenalAfter nine changes in midweek, we can expect a more familiar team to the one we saw start against Arsenal, Napoli and Manchester United.Ginaluigi Donnarumma will come back into goal, with Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol sitting in front of him.Rodri should hopefully start at the base of midfield, whilst the attacking options of Haaland, Doku, Tijjani Reijnders, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva are also very likely to start.Nico O’Reilly will start at left back with Rayan Ait-Nouri still not fit, and one of Rico Lewis or Matheus Nunes will start at right back.A team like that is very likely, and will be much more familiar and well functioning then the team put out at the Accu Stadium on Wednesday.A tough game, but a winThis game won’t be quite as easy as some expect it will be.I can see a frustrating first half, where Burnley sit deep and frustrate City by not allowing them any space in between the lines. It could just take a goal for City to break through and run riot from that point – and I wouldn’t rule them out eventually winning handsomely. But those expecting nothing less than a thrashing could be disappointed.
